Evening Adult Program Assistant Part Time

Literacy Achieves (formerly known as VMLC/Vickery Meadow Learning Center) is dedicated to improving English literacy levels among non-English speaking adults and their young children by providing programs in communication and life skills. Literacy Achieves serves approximately 1,000 adults and 300 children annually at two physical locations and online. Approximately 300 volunteers teach adult classes, work in the computer lab, assist in the office and support the children’s program. For more information, please visit: www.LiteracyAchieves.org.

Position Overview: Reporting to the Adult Program Director, the Evening Adult Program Assistant will assist with the Adult Program two nights a week: Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Responsibilities include assisting with information and data management for prospective and current students, assisting with general program administration needs for volunteers, and general administrative duties for the organization.

 Responsibilities:

Adult Program:

• Assist with data entry of volunteer hours, student absences, and student attendance
• Be willing to substitute in English literacy classes in absence of volunteer teacher
• Make announcements to students about upcoming events
• Assist with all student applications and inquiries
• Assist with student book distribution and money collection
• Assist with all student inquiries and concerns

General Administration:

• Maintain a welcome environment in the front office by greeting students and volunteers
• Be responsible for answering calls
• Receive in-person inquiries
• Assist in general administrative tasks: mailings, copying, and filing

Qualifications:

Skills:

• Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish
• Proficient in Word and Excel
• Excellent communication
• Detail oriented
• Able to follow through with assigned duties
• Excellent organization

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years college or equivalent work in Education, preferably in an English literacy or, ESL program.
